I just got done explaining to my friend from Israel, who wants to build his own server, what he needs to do. I told him what parts he needs and he cannot remember what I have told him 40 seconds ago, so he keeps asking me questions, which he should not if he had THOUGHT over what I had just told him. I feel like a broken record, because almost every day we go over the same material, and this has been going on for weeks.

He is 15, so I was feeling like Billy Bob in Bad Santa. I wanted to scream: “Are you FUCKING with me kid?” That is only because I had to explain multiple times the same thing. Some of you know how much I get irritated when people are not fucking thinking. Damn it, just fucking scroll up and read what I explained to you the previous three times. Oh and do NOT forget to thinking about what you are reading and what we are talking about.

This is an update after reading the first comment!

The thing is that he wants to have a machine on which he can run game servers, in particular Half-Life. He wants to have 8 game servers on the same box and still be able to provide a supper low ping to players. On top of that he wants to do it on residential cable, the upstream on which, we all know, is absolute crap. To add to that he does not even have full access to the router in his house so he can configure it. I have told him number of time and even today, you cannot provide quality game play with these settings.

I researched and gave him semi-top of the line configuration for in-house server. I have explained to him what different hardware in the computer and on a network does. I can understand if you tell me that he does not understand it, but I have not explained all that just once. I have done it multiple times during so many weeks in a row.

For example today I told him that I left buying CD-ROM, keyboard, mouse, computer case and a monitor up to him. It can all be generic, if you are going to be using the machine as a server. So, he asked me what a monitor is and why he needs it. I told him that the video monitor is what is in front of him and on what he is reading this conversation at the moment. He still did not get it. I send him a picture of a monitor and said: video monitor = screen = display, it is all the same. So he is: “oh ok, I get it now”. So we started talking about other hardware he needed. Maybe five minutes had past and the monitor subject came up again. Once again, after I had spend 20 minutes explaining, I had to remind him WHAT THE FUCK a MONITOR is and WHY he NEEDS one. The same thing happened latter, again. At which point I was ready to scream: “Are you fucking with me kid?”

I just not enjoy talking to him at all, because I always end up repeating myself. I just want to send him the conversation logs and tell him to read them over.
