Problems with Microsoft Copilot app on Android

Few weeks ago, I re-installed the Microsoft Copilot app on my phone, and while I do not have problems with using Copilot on PC, on mobile Copilot does not work for me neither in the app nor in the mobile browser! I receive the following error messages when I try to access Copilot:

  • Mobile browser – “It’s not you, it’s me”
  • Mobile app – “Something went wrong. Please try again.”

I have been trying to figure out what is the issue. All of the posts about these error message, I found on support forums, did not have a solution or understanding of what is happening. So, today once again I spend some time troubleshooting this issue on my phone – testing different network connections, testing DNS configurations, resetting storage. Nothing was worked until I decided to disconnect from my service provider’s VPN! As it happens, my service provider is Google Fi and I rely on Google Fi VPN for privacy.

It appears that for some unknown reason Google is blocking Microsoft’s Copilot through its VPN service! Unfortunately, there is no configuration settings I can change to whitelist the Copilot service or domains. My only option was to sent feedback to Google and Microsoft via the Fi and Copilot apps and inform them that Google’s VPN is blocking Copilot. Hopefully they will see this and figure it out amongst themselves.

For now, my only options are to not use Copilot on my mobile device, disable the Google Fi VPN, or switch to Microsoft Defender’s VPN on my mobile. I hope this gets resolved in the near future.
