If you are using an older Wacom graphics tablet on Windows 10 then you are probably using an older version of the Wacom drivers, ones which are no-longer updated. My Surface Book 1 laptop is running Windows 10, and it has a high-resolution screen. The resolution is not compatible with the Wacom Preferences app and the UI scaling is smooshed and overlayed on itself. Very much un-usable.
There is an easy way to fix the UI scaling with this older Wacom Preferences app, and it is hidden in the Windows app preferences Compatibility tab. To get started, open the Wacom Preferences app unless you have it pinned to your taskbar.
- Right click on the Wacom Preferences taskbar icon, then right click on the Wacom Preferences app and select “Properties”.
- Click on the “Compatibility” tab.
- Click on the “Change high DPI settings” button, at the bottom of the pane.
- Tick the “Overwrite high DPI scaling behavior” checkbox.
- From the drop-down menu, select the “System (Enhanced)” option, if available, else select the “System” option. The former will make text sharper and more readable after the UI is re-scaled.
- Click the “OK”, “Apply”, and “OK” buttons to save the changes and exit the Windows preferences for the app.
- Restart the Wacom Preferences app.
The app should now start in a bigger window with all the app’s tabs and buttons usable and text readable. I hope this helps alleviate some frustration and avoids the need to buy new hardware, if the old one still works.
