Time to say goodbye to my old laptop. I have had it for six or seven-years, and it has served me well. A few years back the hard drive controller started to exhibit issues – it did not always boot because it could not find the hard drive. Other times it worked fine, but any heavy IO operations would cause the system to hang. I tried replacing the drive and the ribbon cable, but neither worked.

I resorted to running the OS from an extern drive, so the laptop became a desktop. That worked fine for a while, but with more recent OS versions and more demanding web applications, it still showed its age.
